Blazers: 5 goals for Seth Curry in his first season back from injury
By Nate Mann
Three-point shooting
As previously mentioned, catch-and-shoot threes were the bread-and-butter of Curry’s offensive game. With the high volume of such attempts, Curry knocked them down at an exceptional rate – he made 40.6% of his threes shot in under two seconds and 41.1% when taken after no dribbles.
He also excelled at other types of three-point shooting with the Mavericks:
- Pull ups: 44.9%
- Touch time over 6 seconds: 44.4%
- More than 7 dribbles: 42.5%
This diverse success from beyond the arc contributed to Curry finishing his fourth season shooting 42.5% from three on 4.6 attempts per game. No Blazers player shot that well from outside last season.
However, the primary concern is Curry’s ability to replicate that shooting after missing an entire season. Besides 2016-2017 with Dallas, he hasn’t played more than 45 games in a season or attempted more than 2.6 threes per game.
The breakout season could have been an outlier, plus losing momentum from a successful campaign might hurt his outside shooting. He needs to maintain these shooting percentages to positively impact Portland’s bench unit.
