JIM PAXSON
Jim Paxson was a sharpshooting, 6-foot-6-inch guard out of the University of Dayton; he was the 12th pick of the 1979 NBA draft. During nine seasons in Portland, he averaged 16 points per game and shot 50 percent from the field.
Paxson was a two-time All-Star for the Trail Blazers (1983 and 1984), averaging more than 21 points per game in both those seasons, and made the All-NBA Second Team in 1984. When he was traded to Boston in 1988, he left as Portland’s all-time leading scorer with 10,003 points. (He’s currently No. 7 on that list, recently passed by Damian Lillard.)
Paxson retired in 1990 and became Portland’s assistant general manager. He later worked a variety of front-office positions for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Chicago Bulls, where he worked alongside his brother, John.
