Would you trade Damian Lillard for three Miami Heat players, including Hassan Whiteside? We asked that question on behalf of a friend in Miami. Here’s what Rip City had to say about that idea.

We at the RCP are fortunate; we have friends all over the world. Sometimes they get in touch and ask us how things are going on the Trail Blazers beat and about life in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

Naturally, we fib and tell them the PNW sucks, that it rains every single day all year round, and that nobody else should move here because it’s already too crowded.

We love our friends, but c’mon. Enough is enough.

Occasionally, our friends will also ask us to entertain a trade idea that they’ve heard batted around their respective NBA cities on social media, radio talk shows and FanSided.

Hypothetical Trail Blazers Trade Idea

One friend in Miami wanted to ask us about trading Damian Lillard. Let’s call him Craig.

Sayeth Craig: “I’m curious whether Trail Blazers fans would be happy with the package that Heat fans have been hypothetically trading to Portland.”

The package: Lillard for Hassan Whiteside, Goran Dragic and Justise Winslow.

Continueth Craig: “If you could indulge me and find out what Trail Blazers fans would want for Damian (if he was to be traded).”

So we did.

On Facebook:

Hey Rip City! A Miami Heat fan wants us to ask you this question: Would you be willing to trade Damian Lillard for…

Rip City Responds

After they stopped guffawing (most of them, anyway), we got a bunch of really interesting and funny responses.

It should be noted that some people didn’t think it was all that outrageous of an idea. But they were definitely in the minority.

And so, without further ado, here are the Top Ten (family friendly) responses.

No. 10

"Sam Chan (Facebook): “A team of Whiteside, Dragic and Winslow didn’t make the playoffs in the weaker East. A team with Lillard in the wild West did. End of story.”"

No. 9

"Steve Milos (Facebook): “They can have Nurk and Evan Turner plus a 1st rounder for them (minus Dragic).”"

No. 8

No. 7

"Brynn Dyer (Facebook): Hahahahahahahahaha!"

No. 6

(Editor’s Note: Those jerseys are pretty sweet.)

No. 5

"@jamesblyin (Twitter): You guys been smoking that good good …"

Thanks to everyone who responded. It’s clear from the reactions that there’s probably not much out there to entice Rip City to part with one of the most beloved and respected players in Trail Blazers history.

Next: Trail Blazers on a roll, but tough road, true tests await

And as far as hypothetical trade ideas go, it’s like a Dame D.O.L.L.A. drive to the basket:

Come strong. Or don’t come at all.

Go Blazers.
