A Damian Lillard and Victor Oladipo song collab needs to happen
Damian Lillard and Victor Oladipo share two things: they’re both in the NBA, and they’re both musically talented.
If you’re reading this, you’ve probably heard Damian Lillard — aka Dame D.O.L.L.A. — rap. He’s the NBA’s best rapper. It’s fact.
But have you heard Victor Oladipo sing!? Here’s his official debut:
The shooting guard delivers an impressive range of vocals under the name “V.O.” on his SoundCloud.
Maybe this is your first time hearing Vic sing, I know it’s mine, but his passion for singing is well-documented:
- He sung “I Believe I Can Fly” during All-Star Weekend for the NBA Talent Challenge.
- During the the 2015 Dunk Contest, he sung “New York, New York” before throwing down a 360-reverse dunk. He earned a perfect 50 for the dunk (and his vocals).
- On Draft Night 2013, after going No. 3 overall, he sung to express his feelings about the high pick.
- He’s even gone on to sing Christmas carols at a hospital.
Oladipo did tell Complex he’s not looking to put out an album right now, but that doesn’t rule out singles like his recent hit.
"Maybe one day. I think ain’t too many NBA players who are actually really good at singing. There’s a lot of rappers, but not too many singers. I think it could be something special, so maybe one day."
Vic’s right: there’s a ton of NBA rappers.
Lonzo Ball is trying to push his rap career as he enters the league. Lou Williams has given it a go. Iman Shumpert seems like one of the most serious rappers right now. Legends like Shaq, Kobe and Iverson all have rap history, too.
Who’s the best of them all? Damian. Lillard.
I don’t need to tell you how impressive his Sway in the Morning freestyle is. You don’t need reminding how replayable songs like “Full Stomach” and “They Sleep” are.
This goes without mentioning Dame D.O.L.L.A.’s successful debut album “The Letter O”.
Lillard’s star in the rap sky is growing brighter and brighter by the day. He’s separating from the pack among his NBA peers, and he just might break into the mainstream rap bubble with his follow-up album.
Bringing Vic in now for a feature is probably a major stretch given he’s aiming for a release before the upcoming season starts.
But what about a single from the two? It’d be a mix of both singing and rapping, which Lillard’s not been shy of.

His song “Bigger Than Us” features Paul Rey singing the chorus, and it’s one of his most popular songs.
Oladipo and Lillard would complement each other well; they’re both talented and obviously dedicated to their craft.
Put two hard-working, talented individuals together, and you’ll see the music magic happen.
