Sacramento Kings
Maximum Cap Space: $25.5
Current Shooting Guards: Marco Belinelli, James Anderson, Ben McLemore
Sacramento’s quest to add a solid shooting guard will continue into this summer. McLemore has underachieved for a player that was selected at number seven in the 2013 NBA Draft. Belinelli is a solid role player, but is not an ideal starter. Adding a player of Crabbe’s caliber would be a major upgrade over all the players listed above.
Sir Charles In Charge
Much like New Orleans, Sacramento needs solid shooters to open up space for their dominant big man. DeMarcus Cousins is a beast on offense, but he faces constant double teams when his teammates can’t keep their defenders honest. Crabbe shot a solid 45.9% from the field in 2015-16, which is enough to force his opponent to respect his shooting range.
Shooting guard isn’t the only position of worry for the Kings though. Point guard will also be an issue. Rajon Rondo will once again hit the open market and Darren Collison has run into legal trouble. Upgrading both guard spots will be a tough task with only 25.5 million dollars available. One spot will likely be addressed with their eighth pick in the upcoming NBA draft, so Crabbe could still be on the table in early July.
A clear path to a starting spot and a return to Crabbe’s home state are two things working in the Kings favor. Those are two solid advantages, but it might not be enough to overcome Sacramento’s poor winning culture.
