Brooklyn Nets
Maximum Cap Space: $38.2
Current Shooting Guards: Markel Brown, Wayne Ellington, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Sean Kilpatrick
The Nets are in serious need of a roster upgrade. Unfortunately for the Nets, they traded a ton of draft picks to the Celtics earlier this decade. They have done a solid job of getting out from under some of their bigger contracts, which will allow them to pursue high upside players on the open market. This is where the 24 year old Crabbe would be a welcome addition in Brooklyn.
Brown and Ellington (player option) are out of contract, which will give Crabbe a chance to become a starter. Hollis-Jefferson split time between shooting guard and small forward, which gives the Nets a chance to have two capable perimeter defenders in their starting five.
Along with the potential defensive advantages, Crabbe’s .393 3P% would be a big improvement for a Nets team that only shot .352 from deep in 2015-16. Stretching the floor is key for Brooklyn’s offense, as it gives Brook Lopez the ability to operate comfortably in the post.
The Nets have the ability to create a bunch of cap space this summer. They can clear up a little over 38 million dollars, which would allow them to pay Crabbe exactly what he is asking for. Overpaying for a 24 year old shooting guard wouldn’t be the dumbest thing for a Nets team that has made some very questionable roster decisions in their recent history.
