4.) Jim Paxson
Best Season: 1982-83 – 21.7 PPG / .515 FG%
Paxson helped lead the Trail Blazers offense through the early 80’s, and he did so with great efficiency. Both the 1982-83 season and the 1983-84 season saw his PPG average break the twenty point threshold (21.7 and 21.3 respectively). In both of those years he was recognized by the fans and his peers, as he was part of the All-Star festivities both seasons. Before being moved to Boston in a trade, he was the Trail Blazers all time scoring leader.
Paxson made a living by getting to the hoop for high percentage shots. His size (6’6) and ball handling ability made him a tough matchup for opposing defenses. His inability to shoot the ball from beyond the arc did hurt his ranking on this list though. His best three point shooting year as a Trail Blazer saw him go a mediocre 32% from downtown (per Basketball-Reference.com). It is important to note that he played in an era before three point shooting was all the rage.
