Five Fire Sales Worth Portland’s Consideration
It appears that the NBA trade market is filled with more potential sellers than buyers. This could put the Trail Blazers in a favorable position to make a splash in the trade market. Neil Olshey is currently holding the most cap flexible roster in the league, and it should be safe to assume he will use it in some way. Couple our cap space with a recent injury scare and you have the makings for a roster primed for a little re-shuffling.
What exactly is a fire sale? In the sporting world it is a term used to describe a team looking to make drastic roster changes. It also implies that the team doing the trading is valuing the roster shake up more than getting correct compensation for their assets. A franchise often finds themselves in this situation for the following reasons: not meeting expectations, poor team chemistry, dysfunction in the front office, and coaching turnover.
With the league moving into the new year there are several teams already shaping up to be major sellers. Will the Trail Blazers front office come across an offer worth sacrificing their flexibility? RCP will now explore five current situations that could be advantageous for Portland.
