The Markieff Morris Situation
To say Morris is unhappy in Phoenix is an understatement. A summer trade shipped his twin brother (Marcus Morris) out of town, and Morris hasn’t reacted well. His latest campaign for a trade has left Jeff Hornacek with few options on how to handle the situation. Morris recently received a DNP-CD (did not play – coach decision) on Sunday against the Grizzlies.
Morris needs a change of scenery, and his recent benching only lowers what the Suns can demand in return. It would be a gamble to put a disgruntled player in a young locker room, but Damian Lillard seems to have a strong presence behind the curtain. Coach Terry Stotts is also popular among his players, and could be a welcome change from Hornacek.
Bidding on Morris might not be cheap, but Portland has stable of young front court players. A combination of young players, 2nd round picks, and cap relief could be enough to intrigue the Suns. If Portland could get their hands on a motivated Morris it could be enough to transform them into a scrappy playoff team.
