Wesley Matthews reads mean tweet on Jimmy Kimmel Live
By David MacKay
Mean Tweets is a popular segment on the late night TV show Jimmy Kimmel Live! where celebrities read nasty things that have been said about them in the Twittersphere. In the latest edition, Portland Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews and a host of other NBA players joined the program to address the trolls that heckle them from home. Matthews’ dedicated internet hater had something to say about his figure.
Matthews’ response was spot-on. It may be more difficult to tell when he is out there in a baggy jersey, but Matthews is shaped like a Dorito. He has perhaps the most impressive physique of his teammates and it’s nearly all muscle. For some frame of reference here, 2%-5% of body fat in an adult male is considered “essential fat,” while most professional athletes boast a body fat percentage of 6%-13% overall. This places Matthews among the trimmest of the trim, despite his still rock-solid appearance.
As for complaining about every foul, rest assured that Matthews is far from an egregious offender. He plays with passion and intensity and surely bends the official’s ear in disagreement, but no more than anyone else out there playing their hardest. Besides, Matthews fouls at a clip of about 2.2 per game. If the tweeter cannot handle 10 seconds of argument, maybe there are less hypocritical things he could do than complain about it on social media. I’ve heard kicking back with a box of donuts is nice.
