 #5 – Marcin Gortat

You knew this was coming. Gortat has been the center of trade speculation in recent weeks for good reason. The Phoenix Suns are looking to acquire another first round selection and the 10th pick from Portland is up for grabs. Gortat’s production took hits across the board after Steve Nash left for Los Angeles last season and his time with the Suns could be drawing to a close as they rebuild. He also happens to be the kind of defensive center the Blazers are looking for.

A year ago, a trade would have been highly improbable because Gortat was regarded to be among the better centers in the league. But now, his stock is just low enough for Portland to swoop in and hope he returns to form. I would be surprised if he didn’t. The Polish Hammer is six seasons deep and still improving (last year not withstanding).

Gortat is owed $7.7 million for the 2013-2014 season; a steep sum, but probably the most worth it in the short term.
