The Aftermath

This reminds me of a corny movie. So do the Nets and Mavs wake up this morning, look at each other and ask “Did we….no…we didn’t? Are you sure?” And they end up being married and doing all sorts of wacky things to each other until they fall in love.

Unfortunately this isn’t a movie, and the reality that Devean George is Mr. BLOCKbuster sets in. I’m still not quite sure what’s more shocking that Kidd was about to get traded to Dallas or that George blocked it. For all you Stern conspiracy theorists, I have a good one for you. Stern told George to block the trade. Why? So he would not have to face the All-Star dilemna. How do you deal with an All-Star being traded to a different conference right before the game? I mean seriously how on earth does that work? Does Kidd automatically become an All-Star starter on the West? Does someone get kicked off? Who replaces him? Stern didn’t want to think about it and face the controversy. He didn’t want to have to name a third Eastern Conference All-Star replacement. Maybe he read Gilbert’s blog and decided Jose Calderon was nowhere near worthy, who knows.

Think I’m just messing around? Check this quote out courtesy of Jeff Caplan of the Fort Worth Star Telegram:

“If a deal is not completed Thursday, when the Mavs play at Phoenix, it probably won’t become official, if George allows it, until after the All-Star break on Monday. League offices shut down during the weekend extravaganza.”

Not such a coincidence anymore huh? That’s what I thought.

  • Lost in the Kidd/Dallas love affair from yesterday: Ray Ray to replace Caron Butler in the All-Star Game. I feel bad for Caron for getting hurt and unable to play in his best year. Maybe next year Hedo and Josh Smith. Probably not.
  • More All-Star news: Kobe may be out of the three-point contest. This may be a good thing for Kobe, the public and everyone not named Rip Hamilton. Don’t believe me….check out how good MJ did in 1990. That’s the all-time low if you were curious.
  • Gotta love when Zach Randolph starts playing GM. Long story short, Z-Bo says this mess ain’t working. Actually that almost literally what he said. For all the Isiah-haters, check this unbelievable quote out. Even the writer makes fun of him.

“What’s happening in this league is that a lot of teams are playing really small,” said Thomas, momentarily forgetting that the Lakers acquired Pau Gasol and the Suns traded for Shaquille O’Neal last week. “It is slow phasing out of the big man is what is happening in this league, it seems like. A lot of teams are playing really small and shooting the three-ball, and if you don’t adjust and adjust quickly you can find yourself down 12 to 15 points.”

I’m officially convinced that Isiah Thomas is stuck in 2006. Did he not pay attention to those trades? That Suns just traded for Shaq to STOP playing really small. The Warriors just signed Chris Webber to STOP playing really small. The Lakers just traded for Pau to get BIGGER. Dallas is getting ripped for getting smaller. Zeke….my friend…you’re an idiot.
