Day 4 + Tonsils

The Blazers are going to shut Oden down for the rest of the summer once he gets his tonsils removed. No link, you’re just going to have to believe me. I’m not going to try and make any excuses but I’m sure playing with swollen tonsils that have to get removed is no fun, hell they made me cry when I was little.

Yesterday was the first day I refused to do live coverage of the Summer League. Sorry, having a life and doing things is pretty fun. But here is a brief recap of what you missed if you care. San Antonio beat Boston in an atrocious 61-53 win. Why atrocious? San Antonio had 23 turnovers and Boston had 27. Jackie Butler dropped 16 and 12 for the Spurs while the Celtics were led by Big Baby Davis who had 12 and 9 boards. Rajon Rondo…7 turnovers. He’s not the starting point guard for the C’s next year with a 1 assist for every seven turnover ratio. Nothing to worry about.

Detroit beat Memphis 80-78. Rodney Stuckey showed everyone ‘hey I can put the ball in the damn basket’ with his 27-point performance. More impressive was that he was 9/16 and made all 9 of his free throws. Arron Afflalo continues to struggle with his shot as he had 11, going 4/13 on the day. For Memphis, Kyle Lowry raised his hand telling management ‘yeah remember me, I was kind of supposed to be the PG of the future’. 23 points later I’m sure the Grizzles understood what he was saying. Rudy Gay had 11 and 11 but was 3/16 and have 5 turnovers, Conley had a quiet 8 and 3.

Golden State beat Philadelphia 94-87. Belinelli’s second game? Not quite as impressive. 23 points on 9/23 shooting. You should know me by now that I can’t stand seeing an equal number of points and shots taken. Pierre Pierce had 22, Azubuike must have some finacial security with his 13 point effort. For Philly, Jason Smith and Thaddeus Young had their first double doubles and Louis Williams had his best game of the summer; 23, 9 boards and 7 assists.

Marcus Banks set a Summer League record with 42 last night. And no one cares. Seriously, sometimes you do so much damage that you can’t be saved with great performances. This doesn’t make me any more comfortable with the thought of him bringing the ball up against the Spurs. Oh yeah and the Suns lost to the Cavs.

Durant’s struggles continued with a 19 shot, 18 point performance. But at least he had two turnovers this time. Gotta fill out that box sheet.

By the way tomorrow is the day when players can officially sign. We’ve already heard of a few deals that will be made official tomorrow. Rumor has it Mo Williams will go to Miami and Derek Fisher will go to the Lakers.

  • More details on Oden and his tonsils.
  • Details on the Seattle/Orlando saga over a sign-and-trade. Otis Smith tries to convince me that every team in the league is interested in Hedo Turkoglu. He literally says it in this article. Unreal.
  • Ron Artest says he wants to retire a King. Ok, Ron does know that everyone thinks he is crazy right? Ok, just wanted to make sure. Because there isn’t a soul on earth who believes this. Except for 10 year olds in Sacramento.
  • Yesterday in my imaginary blog entry (aka I didn’t finish it) I spoke about how dumb Stan Van Gundy was for wanting to see some defense out of JJ Redick. Ya know cause the one thing he can do is score…and looking at your roster you need a whole lot more of that then scoring. Anyways, JJ went off in day one of the Pepsi Pro Summer League. This will make Coup shake his head. Seeing that Adam Morrison struggled may bring a smile to his face.
  • American ladies should know that Yi likes to take it slow. Real slow. He’s the type of guy whose parents choose who he dates.
  • I’m sorry but there is a huge difference between going out in Miami with Pat Riley and having breakfast Monday morning with Senator Herb Kohl in Milwaukee. This is a pretty easy choice Mo, you get to play with two of the all-time greats, one of the greatest coaches of all time and you will still have time to get a major league pay-day cause you’re only 24. Plus you get to live in Miami. If he signs with Milwaukee….d-u-m-b.
  • The Bulls big man search is seriously Joe Smith, Mikki Moore and Chris Mihm. Have they lost their minds? Why get a clone of PJ Brown?
  • The link is broken but Quentin Richardson says he expects to start this year. Seriously, Stern should have the Knicks followed all year. They need to be taped at all times. I mean tell me you wouldn’t watch the ego clashing of Eddy Curry, Zach Randolph, Stephon Marbury, Jamal Crawford, Nate Robinson, Quentin Richardson, David Lee and the rest. Especially once they realize there aren’t enough shots to go around. Because all of these guys need shots to even think about trying on defense. This is not going to end well.
