Notable Starters for the Pistons are Stuckey, Afflalo and Maxiell. For the Sixers we got, Louis Williams, Rodney Carney, Jason Smith, Thaddeus Young and Louis Admunson. Who went to UNLV. And got booed. Awesome.
First play for the Sixers was a lob to Carney which got a foul. With this kind of athelticism if Mo Cheeks doens’t have them running and gunning he should be shot in the foot.
As I typed that this sequence happened. Blocked shot by Admunson led to a freakshow dunk by Thaddeus.
Jason Smith with a two handed dunk…he jumped from pretty far back. He caught it one the run and dunked it. He is like an athletic Przybilla. Admunson got blocked by Maxiell, they called a foul and you could hear Maxiell go ‘aw hell nah’. I love summer league.
Maxiell tries to break the damn rim on a two handed dunk. It was like Oden’s from last night with more power.
37-35 in he second..it has been a pretty even-steven contest to say the least. Stuckey has shown his worth with 8 early points. Maxiell also has 8. For the Sixers, Thaddeus is really getting into a groove attacking the basket. He has 6, Admunson has 7, Jason Smith has five boards. Everyone is happy. Except for me and the fans.
Afflalo is struggling to find his outside shot…but he finally got something going with an aggressive drive, capped off by a spin move and a layup. He has to find a way to hit that jumper consistently. Stuckey is struggling defensively with 5 fouls in 20 minutes. Big step from the Big Sky. Meanwhile Sammy Mejia is trying to steal the show from those guys..he has 8 points as well.
This game is slowly killing me.
Afflalo might be getting into a big of rhythm he just hit an open court jumper. 50-49 Philadelphia as the Pistons called a timeout.. I do hope they score on this because the timeout was pretty unnecessary.
That play resulted in an over and back. Unbelievable. Only in the Summer League people.
I can’t be the only one who thinks Jason Maxiell should be playing more right?
55-53 Detroit with what feels like the 82381 timeout of the game. 2:43 left in the third. This game needs Belinelli. By the way Maxiell has taken over if you were curious. 17 in the game..nine in this quarter.
85-83 Philadelphia with 24.2 seconds left in the game. Story of the game has been Louis Williams transforming into D-Wade…by getting to the free throw line. He is 15/15 on the day and has 30 points. Deroit has the ball..they go to a pick and roll with Stuckey and Maxiell. Stuckey gets all the way to the bucket and draws a foul. Highlight is some white lady saying ‘You better make these Stuckey!’
Tie game with what looks like either 9.1 or 39.1 seconds left in the game. Thanks to me having to rely on a camera shot of a college scoreboard I couldn’t really tell you. But I know it’s tied. Screw you NBA.com
Inbound to Louis Williams who got locked up by Arron Afflalo. Turns out it was 9 seconds. Real ugly shot, I mean Williams hesitated, hesitated and ending up heaving a terrible three pointer. He may have cost himself a job with that. Meanwhile, Afflalo…bulldog-like D on the play. I knew from the minute Williams caught it if there wasn’t a screen coming he was in trouble.
Two-minute overtime period…pretty much the only thing that could save this game.
Afflalo may be struggling with his shot but he is working hard and has established himself as one of the guys who is going to actually play defense. And then he sticks a three-pointer on the other end to put Detroit up by three.
Detroit pulls it out 91-89 in OT. Afflalo and Stuckey pulled the ‘struggled at times, showed potential at times’ card. Maxiell was a beast with 22. For Philly it was the Louis Williams show and everyone else was along for the ride. He had 32, 6 turnovers and 4 assists. Never good when Rodney Carney has one less assist then the “point guard”
Next up, in what the PA Announcer had the audacity to call a ‘rematch of the NBA Finals’ is Cleveland/San Antonio. I didn’t watch it when it mattered, I sure as hell ain’t watching it now. Cleveland didn’t have a single draft pick and San Antonio always hibernates their draft picks for years overseas. Cleveland does have an interesting team name wise. They have Shannon Brown and Daniel ‘I have to kill now’ Gibson. College wonderboys Kevin Pittsnogle, Matt Walsh, PJ Tucker, Dijon Thompson, Denham Brown and Darius Rice. All who more than likely should be in the league by now. And Bonifacc N’Dong. Unreal. Cleveland’s team might be enough to wrap me in because I actually have heard of half the players.
Nah.
I rejoin coverage with the score 53-42 Cleveland at the end of three. It’s been the Darius Rice show for Cleveland he has 17. I remember the Blazers had him on a summer league team a couple years ago. Damn I wish we had him on our team…that boy can shoot. Anywho…Daniel Gibson obviously just wanted to come to Vegas and Shannon Brown might be trying to do a little too much (3/12). For San Antonio…who cares? Exactly.
Game was about as UGLY as possible. Remind me never to watch any sort of combination of San Antonio and Cleveland. Sacramento and Team China are playing. Guess who is killing? Spencer Hawes already has 10. Yi…scoreless. Would have bet the opposite to be honest.
