I Told You So

Wednesday June 20th 2007…yours truly compared Kobe Bryant to a spoiled white girl. I also had the following to say on the Kobe ‘saga’.

“In my mind this Kobe “saga” is almost like a bad romantic comedy. You know the couple is going to end up together in the end so why invest in such a terrible movie? It seems like this summer’s big story that ends up being nothing.”

“I think that Kobe is just trying to force the Lakers hand. He desperately wants them to make a move and he has been trying to get their attention from the minute they lost the Phoenix series. They kept doing nothing, so he kept doing more to get their attention.”

Thursday July 5th 2007….Kobe apologizes to Mitch Kupchak. Not only that but he says that he was “frustrated” and “venting” and when asked on whether he still wanted to be traded answered that he “..hadn’t thought of that in a long, long time.” So to all you people that got all wrapped up into thinking that Kobe really wasn’t going to be a Laker and refused to listen to me, I’ll be the guy in the back saying I told you so.

The other “big” news story of the week was the Sonics hiring PJ Carlesimo as their new head coach. Really? You waited that long to hire PJ? Maybe Presti is trying to copy San Antonio as much as possible, but I am not so sure this was the right guy. He is very experienced, but has he learned his lesson from Golden State? Will he be a completely different person and a completely different coach? He is dealing with talent that is going to need to be taught and nurtured, he simply cannot use his old ‘in your face’ style and expect anything to happen. I just would have thought that in Seattle where they are building for the future, they would grab a young and hungry coach, give him a chance and let him go with the ball.

More importantly tonight is the beginning of the Vegas Summer League. It is sad that I’ll be paying more attention to these meaningless games then the Finals right? Just checking. On one hand I am excited because now I don’t have to watch the WNBA for my basketball fix, but on the other hand I can’t get too excited over games where rookies are feeling each other out and other players are just trying to get an invite to training camp. We will see though. I am going to try and diary as many games as possible so we will see how it goes. I am pumped for the Blazers squad.

UPDATE: Is it just me or is EVERY lottery or top-pick going to be playing in the Vegas Summer League? How did Stern pull this off? Usually top picks don’t play for every reason in the world. I am now officially back to being excited.
