NBA Draft 07 Running Thoughts

It’s not a diary people…running thoughts. The NBA Draft Preview just started (I’ll be listening, I don’t need much more hype) and we are less than a half hour from the draft itself. Already I have something to say.

4:03 PT: Noah is candidate for worst dressed. Not only is his suit bad, but he has a gross bowtie and his hair down. He just looks a mess. His daddy would not be happy.

4:09 PT: Rumored trade; Seattle trades Ray Allen to Boston for the #5 pick, Delonte West and Wally Sczerbiak. Is it just me or does that trade not sound money for both teams? Also apparently KG isn’t getting traded tonight and China doesn’t want Yi in Milwaukee.

(That noise you hear…mock drafts nationwide crashing to the ground)

4:13 PT: I agree with Dickie V (shockingly) and his talking of how deep the draft is…until he says its the deepest of them all. Unbelievable. And Jay Bilas…I think I figured it out. When he is paired with the NBA guys he looks like a genius, then when he does college basketball he doesn’t say anything stupid so everyone thinks he’s a genius. Maybe he is. But I am enjoying hearing him and not..ya know…anyone else.

(By the way…Tirico trying to pass off Yi’s pronounciation as basically E instead of YEE is ridiculous. I don’t want to hear that BS.)

4:33 PT: Blazers call in the pick and everyone celebrates. I myself am freaking out. I like how the NY crowd booed the Blazers being mentioned. Also, kudos to David Stern for inserting hype for the WNBA in the draft ticker. Way to be. I’m also done with times because I have too much to say.

Stephen A gives Portland props? No freakin way. I don’t believe it. Unbelievable.

I’m nervous. He’s gonna say Durant, he’s gonna say Durant, he’s gonna say Durant, he’s gonna say Durant, he’s gonna say Durant…he

4:36 PT: The Portland Trailblazers are back. The savior has arrived. Unbelievable how small he makes Stern look. Also unbelievable that we have already had the best draft ever. Also…when they went back to the draft cam and everyone had white hats on and were waving the Oden jersey…I just had to shake my head and laugh. You can’t make fun of this year ESPN!!! What up!

(I lied about the times by the way)

4:38 PT: Oden putting on hand sanitizer…how can you not love this guy? Honestly. This is unbelievable. I love being a Blazer fan right now.

(Nothing like pure unadulterated thoughts…I can brag that we’re 1/1 on the Mock Draft)

4:40 PT: Why on earth are the Sonics actually using their whole five minutes? Really? They just like seeing their logo up there. I can’t blame them though. Seattle is getting a money player. Why are all the draft caps white? I am not sure how I feel about this. Screw you adidas.

4:44 PT: Still not a fan of the interviews with the parents. Perfect answer by Durant “If a guy can play basketball, a guy can play basketball.” I love it.

Coup here is your answer…KP looks like a doofus. Sounds like a doofus. He is a doofus.

4:46 PT: Al Horford to Atlanta. Good pick, Stephen A says they should have drafted a point guard. Except they can in 8 picks. Lord. Horford is a monster and he is about to make the Hawks dangerous.

And now the unpredictability begins. What the heck is Memphis about to do? All eyes are on them, their pick is going to have a domino effect on everyone else in this draft.

By the way..I love Al Horford’s dad. He needs to be at every event just pumping his fist and going ‘yeah, baby’.

4:51 PT: Mark Jackson is retarded. The difference between Marvin Williams and Al Horford is insane. Horford is a POST PLAYER. A LOW POST THREAT. Not like all of their small forwards. This was one of the few great picks that the Hawks have ever made. I am seriously debating just muting right about now.

Memphis picks Mike Conley Jr…I don’t know how I feel about that. Coup was right, but I just think they may have overdrafted a little bit. Maybe not, I said the same thing about Deron Williams. Who knows.

(Holy crap, that guy is Mike Conley’s dad?? I always wondered what happened to him. Unbelievable. I remember watching those celebrity slam dunk things and he would almost always win.)

4:55 PT: So Boston makes their move and gets Ray Allen, while Seattle gets a PG (looks like they are gonna trade Ridnour), a shooter (Wally) and a second great prospect in Jeff Green. Unbelievable. Jeff Green and Kevin Durant? What a duo.

Coup isn’t too impressed with this trade. He wonders who is gonna score for Seattle? They got Durant and Green, Wally can score, maybe the resign Rashard who knows. In the East it doesn’t take too much and a nucleus of Ray Allen, Paul Pierce and Al Jefferson…that’s a lot.

5:03 PT: CHINA IS NOT HAPPY. Yi is going to Milwaukee. A little city like Milwaukee just looked at big old China and sent them a big old crotch chop.

The international people…persona non grata this year.

5:07 PT: Yes…Yi can speak English. Does this not make anyone else happy? No translator. I kind of feel bad about him, this guy should be a star but he is going to be stuck in Milwaukee. How many stars have Milwaukee had? Not All-Stars…but SUPERstars. Jack Sikma? Sidney Moncrief?

(Just thought of Lew Alcindor and Oscar Robertson. But still.)

5:10 PT: What the bleep is Minnesota about to do? They have to go Brewer right? They do go Corey Brewer. Hmm…what if they keep KG? Nah. That’s something wonderful that just dropped in Minnesota’s lap. McHale didn’t have to think and now he looks semi smart.

By the way when Dickie V is saying that you’ve been “outfoxed” you know you made a bad move. Will Boston regret this trade? Probably not. I like Ray, Paul and Jefferson. But still.

5:13 PT: Why do I feel that MJ is going to get something from left field right now?

5:18 PT: And he does. Brandan Wright. This actually could be smart. He is a project and Charlotte has enough guys in front of him that he can develop without being asked to do more than he can. I’m telling you, remember I said it the Bobcats are about to make some noise.

5:20 PT: Chicago…Hawes, Noah or Thornton? Which way do they go? I say Hawes (he can give them some scoring later) or maybe Thornton (why not). They need some low post SCORING not just a big but a scorer down there.

(By the way, me and Coup called Noah and Hawes slipping)

Stephen A throws Thornton’s name in the mix. I feel validated and semi-smart. Mark Jackson continues to piss me off, he is phoning it in so bad it is ridiculous. I can’t wait until ESPN makes their 182283 announcing change and he gets bumped down.

5:24 PT: The Bulls take Noah. Terrible pick. They have an energy guy (Tyrus Thomas) and unless they plan on trading for Z-Bo I don’t agree with this one. Not that Noah is bad but how the hell does this help the Bulls? He will give them a much needed infusion of passion and energy. That’s enough right? No. They needed a low post scorer what the bleep am I saying? Bad pick.

5:27 PT: The Kings on the clock…They have to go with Thornton.

5:31 PT: They took Spencer? Brad Miller and Spencer Hawes? Unbelievable. And not the good kind. Maybe it will pay off down the road. I don’t think you should have Brad Miller and his second coming on the same team.

5:34 PT: I’m thinking ATL takes Law here, Philly takes Al Thornton, New Orleans takes Nick Young and the Clippers take….who knows.

No John Paxson you don’t need size you need a LOW POST SCORER. But again I will say Chicago needs their energy and passion. I mean Chicago just looked deathly out there in the playoffs. Oh wait. John Paxson just said he needed a low post scorer. WHY DIDNT YOU GET ONE? The only think Noah brings is energy and passion. Stephen A goes off for the first time this draft. Paxson has to address the low post scoring.

5:37 PT: ATL does take Acie Law. Their coach can’t mess this up right? They finally have a good draft, they adressed both their needs through the draft, t
here are no more excuses. Atlanta should be back.

5:45 PT: Philly throws a major league curveball and takes Thaddeus Young. There is our guy, we told y’all he’d be in the lottery. Totally didn’t see that coming though and I’m not sure why they didn’t take Thornton. Age? I like Young going there. Coup likes that pick a lot.

I love how there are so few commercial breaks and they are always the same commercials.

5:48 PT: Coup checks in with “KP should trade up to get Julian Wright”. He’s texted this idea to me at least 231 times since the draft started.

5:50 PT: I think NO is a little upset that Philly took Thaddeus right up from them. I think they take Thornton and the Clippers take Nick Young. Julian Wright could possibly fall right into Detroit’s lap. Unbelievable.

5:52 PT: There goes that theory. Julian Wright goes to New Orleans. Uh. Um. Coup says this could be a steal, look at another weapon for Chris Paul. I’m going to agree because of his versatility. Dickie V says 10 rookies will average 10. No. I officially just have no clue what is going on right now.

5:55 PT: So the Clippers…do they take Javaris? Nick Young? Al Thornton? Detroit and Washington are about to get some quality and they are playoff teams. Oh boy.

5:58 PT: Easy pick for the Clippers. Beast. Oh man, Elton Brand and Al Thornton. I like that pick a lot.

The lottery is over. Now we’re onto the playoff teams.

6:01 PT: Noodles Nick Young needs to find his smile.

6:06 PT: Rodney Stuckey to the Pistons. This wasn’t a secret at all. Money in the bank. Not much else to be said that people haven’t said about Stuckey and the Pistons. Which team is going to steal Nick Young? He could go anywhere between now and 20. Does he fall all the way down to the Lakers? Doubtful but ya never know.

6:10 PT: Nick Young drops right in the Wizards lap. Coup is mad that he didn’t drop to Golden State but oh well. He’s a goofy guy I had one experience with him on the basketball court. He didn’t score on me. I agree with Stephen A if Washington just had one big they would be absolutely unstoppable.

6:14 PT: Ya know…I know we need to get rid of Z-Bo but damnit we are just giving up entirely too much I think. We are basically giving him away. I thought we could have gotten something back. Steve Francis and Channing Frye…am I forgetting how good Francis is? Shit the Knicks are going to be good. And the Nets took Sean Williams. Steal. Major upgrade from Mikki Moore’s crazy ass and Collins #2.

6:18 PT: I am floored right now. Coup has entirely too much trust in KP, I don’t. I am reeling right now ladies and gentlemen. Francis hasn’t played a full season in his career and hasn’t played 70+ since 04/05. There is a reason he went from being Stevie Franchise to Steve Francis. I know people will be going nuts that we dumped Zach but we should have gotten something better. Plus now New York…oh lord.

6:21 PT: Coup calms me down. Zach was probably hard to move and thank god he’s not getting near Oden. That’s why I need him here.

Golden State took Belinelli. I saw him in the first round, didn’t see him this early. I like that fit though. I think its perfect, I thought he would be perfect for Phoenix he’ll be even better for Golden State. As long as he doesn’t get messed up by Stephen Jackson and BD. You know you could see it happening.

6:26 PT: The chaos…the chaos has been way underrated. Few moves, zero that have been officially confirmed by the commish either. And I miss the old days where there was a trade between draft picks and they would come out and switch hats.

6:29 PT: How pumped are Smush and Farmar right about now? Lakers draft Crittendon. And why the hell is Dickie V making sense to me right now? He made me feel great…Zach is going to self-destruct in New York. I am convinced.

6:31 PT: “Here come the white boys”. Direct quote from my mother. Unbelievable.

Seriously, where are all the trades? I’m just a little underwhelmed right now.

6:49 PT: Mitch Kupchak absolutely went off and I loved every second of it. Also, is MJ just making you forget that he was the same guy who drafted Kwame Brown? Cause he is doing a damn good job here with me.

6:52 PT: Hold on. Isiah made one move. I wouldn’t say he knows what he is doing yet. And by the way we should have gotten David Lee.

6:57 PT: This trade for the 24th pick could make it up to me. Come on KP. Rudy Fernandez? I like it, I like it. I am pleased.

7:12 PT: Aaron Brooks worked his ass off and got into the first round. Ya gotta love it. Mark Jackson has liked about zero picks tonight. He is the new Debbie Downer. I like it. Aaron Brooks in a run and gun offense. I am losing steam quickly.

8:04 PT: The ping-pong balls bounced Portland and Seattle’s way in the lottery, but damnit if they both haven’t actually used their brains to go with their luck. I think Seattle has done a great job of completely re-molding their team. They have a young duo in Durant and Jeff Green and if they could somehow get Rashard back would be instantly dangerous. Coup said it about a million times but ESPN is completely on our nuts after banging us for the last decade or so. We’ve gotten some damn steals. Oden, dumped Zach, got Fernandez and McRoberts. Pretty productive. I’d say we came out smelling like roses.

Other thoughts on the last hour…Afflalo being drafted in the first round I didn’t see coming but damnit if it didn’t make sense. I think he’s better than Delfino and he is dangerous running around off screens. He could learn a lot from Rip Hamilton.

Second round…aka international time.
