Happy Arvydas Sabonis Day!

AUTHOR: | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Thursday afternoon was hot, and although it wasn’t quite Dave Chappelle numbers, a few thousand Blazer fans didn’t seem to mind. We all came to see one guy. Arvydas Sabonis. Most Blazer fans remember Sabas, or Sa Bone Bone as one of my friends used to call him, as being a slow, lurching giant, who could pass better than anybody his size should be able to, and shot line drive threes that always seemed to go in.  Old basketball war stories, and to a greater extent YouTube, paint a different picture, one Blazer fans never saw in person. What counts as news in these early days of what might be a season-killing work stoppage? A lawsuit filed by the NBA in federal court in order to head-off potential anti-trust litigation by the NBA player’s association—a lawsuit that named Jimmer Fredette who happens to be a professional in name only? How about whispers and speculation of this superstar or that All-Star taking their game to Turkey, or Isreal, or China? What about Kevin Durant torching a bunch of streetballers at Rucker Park, and the debate that video sparked as to whether or not a guy can establish his street [...]
