5 Robert Williams IIII trades the Blazers should already be exploring
By Tyler Watts
1. Blazers take advantage of Grizzlies’ desperation
The Memphis Grizzlies are off to a horrid start. Ja Morant is suspended for the first 25 games of the regular season, and Steven Adams had season-ending knee surgery. Memphis has a massive need at the five and is in danger of falling into a hole that they cannot climb out of in the difficult Western Conference.
The Grizzlies gave up two first-round picks to get Marcus Smart this summer and may have to deal multiple firsts to find a capable starting center. Robert Williams III would be a strong frontcourt partner for Jaren Jackson Jr. and would create one of the best defensive duos in the league. This deal could make it a reality.
The picks are likely protected, but getting two firsts is massive if the Blazers plan on making a trade to improve their roster in a few years. It could give them the capital to acquire a superstar, and Steven Adams will be trade asset next summer on an expiring contract if he is healthy.
The Portland Trail Blazers should be open to trading Robert Williams III. Teams are interested and significant offers will be made. His defensive chops are desirable, even if Williams III struggles to stay healthy, so keep an eye on the rumors for all the latest.
