26. Minnesota Timberwolves get Nikola Topic
The Timberwolves have a superstar in Anthony Edwards. He should be the face of the franchise and the player Minnesota builds their roster around. They have plenty of questions to answer this season, including does the Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert frontcourt work. If not, the Wolves need to make significant changes.
Point guard is an issue for Minnesota. Mike Conley is 36 years old and the Timberwolves do not have a trusted option behind him. Jordan McLaughlin is best suited as a backup and Shake Milton is a combo guard. They need a long-term solution next to the Ant-Man.
Topic is taking the Adriatic League by storm. Through three games, the 6’7 guard averaged 24.7 points, 7.3 assists, 3.3 rebounds, and 0.7 steals in 34.5 minutes per game. The 18-year-old has been impressive with his passing and playmaking. He has outstanding size and a skill set that could make him a lottery pick.
There are questions about his defense and 3-point shot, but the teenager will iron them out over time. Nikola Topic will rise up boards throughout this process if he continues his outstanding play. Early signs are strong and the 6’7 guard is a player to watch this season.
