30. LA Clippers (via Bucks) draft Colby Jones
The Clippers are in a difficult position. They currently have a payroll north of $200 million, which exceeds the NBA’s new second tax apron by more than $22 million. It will prevent them from making roster upgrades, but the harshest penalties begin next summer. Should LA run it back and hope that Kawhi Leonard and Paul George can stay healthy for a deep playoff run?
With a new arena on the horizon, the Clippers are not going to blow it up. If they keep this selection, LA should be looking for someone that can help them as a role player immediately. Jones is a 6’5 wing with a 6’8 wingspan that shot 37.8 percent from 3-point range and showcased some ball-handling, playmaking, and scoring chops.
The Clippers are loaded on the wing, but they want to play small and have the ability to switch everything. Jones offers the versatility and flexibility that LA loves. The 21-year-old is NBA-ready, but he must continue to improve his jumper to stick in the rotation.
The 2023 NBA Draft will be a league-changing night. There will be trades, surprise picks, and a ton of talent entering the league. Fans won’t want to miss one second of the action, so please tune in and enjoy the show.
