Andre Iguodala is the glue guy the Portland Trail Blazers need

So far, Andre Iguodala has yet to take a pay cut, but he has made it clear that he will only play for teams that can compete for a title. If the Miami Heat fit that description in 2020-2021, then whatever team the Blazers take into next season should qualify as well—so long as Damian Lillard is still running point.

At this point in his career, Iggy is only good for about 15-20 minutes a game. That’s all the Blazers would need from him though.

He would come in and fill the role that Evan Turner once held for Portland; a backup oversized point guard. While he’s worn down significantly through his decorated career, Iguodala can still come in and guard any player on the planet pretty well in spurts.

Having his veteran presence and championship pedigree on the bench would make the Blazers better as is. Adding his playmaking and perimeter defense would significantly upgrade their reserve unit.

Having multiple players you can trust down the stretch, especially in the playoffs, is a luxury that the Blazers haven’t had very often. Iggy would be another player that new Head Coach Chauncey Billups won’t have to worry about when the going gets tough.

Iggy could land more than a veteran’s minimum contract, but most true contenders won’t have cap space to spend on him. He could also pick a more definitive championship-level team such as the Lakers or Nets, but they won’t have an ideal role for him. The Portland Trail Blazers are one of the few teams that could offer both an important role and the chance to compete for a title.
