Portland Trail Blazers release 2019-20 preseason schedule

The Portland Trail Blazers have released their 2019-20 preseason schedule.

With the NBA in the dog days of summer upon us, there is not much basketball discussion going around the league community, even in an NBA starved area such as that of the Portland Trail Blazers.

Today, a piece of news released for those truly starving for basketball related news. The Blazers’ preseason schedule was announced, including five games against four different teams.

Portland starts out their tune up games against a familiar foe: the Denver Nuggets. Although the stakes are nowhere nearly as high as their playoff series this past spring, perhaps the circumstances puts a little extra competitive between the two teams.

The Blazers then play Maccabi Haifa, a professional team from Israel who feature former Oregon Duck basketball player Roman Sorkin. Despite not playing in the same league, Portland is no stranger to Haifa, who they faced in the 2017 preseason.

The team finishes out their home preseason games with a matchup against the Phoenix Suns, who they seem to play almost every preseason.

To close out the 2019 preseason, Portland faces two division rivals in the Utah Jazz and Denver Nuggets on the road.

The preseason is not usually necessary for each team’s top players, as they have to manage already high workloads for 80 plus games. Consequently, you usually see very little, if any of the likes of Damian Lillard, and that should not change this upcoming year.

Due to the lack of starter minutes, the preseason is a great opportunity for those younger players who have not had requisite NBA experience yet, or training camp invitees looking for their last shot to hang onto a team before the start of the regular season.

Personally, I believe that the NBA does a good job scheduling their events in a manner where younger players can adjust, moving from Summer League, to preseason, then finally the regular season.

One final note about the preseason is that while all of the games will be on the team’s radio affiliate, Rip City Radio 620, only two games will be on the local cable network, NBC Sports Northwest.
