Sixth Man of the Year
This is not a debate. Williams is having one of the best sixth man seasons of all time and is a legitimate All-NBA candidate.
Gershon: Lou Williams
The Clippers have been one of the best surprises in the NBA this season, but the one aspect of their team that isn’t surprising is that Lou Williams had another outstanding year off the bench. Williams has already won this award twice including last season and seems poised to win it again as he averaged 20 points and over five assists for Los Angeles off the bench this season.
Piper: Lou Williams
This one isn’t even a question to me. There are not very many players that could arguably be their team’s best player but be coming off the bench. Lou Williams barely edged out Danilo Gallinari as the team’s points per game leader at 20.0 ppg and finished in the top 35 in ppg in the whole league while coming off of the bench. His best competition is probably his teammate, Montrezl Harrell, and Domantas Sabonis, and Williams outscored them in ppg by about 3.5 and 6 respectively. I think this is definitely Lou Williams’s award this year.
Corn: Lou Williams
This one is simple. He put up 20 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game and led the Clippers to reaching the playoffs even after they made trades to shake up their roster (one of those moves involved their best player Tobias Harris) during the trade deadline. The man would start the game on the bench and would eventually be the team’s go to closer late. Lou Williams is one of the most underrated players in the game today.
