Portland Trail Blazers: Rethinking CJ McCollum’s Slump
By Doug Patrick
I was wrong.
Look, CJ hasn’t been perfect this season. His three-point percentage is still below league average (.355), his box plus-minus is -0.9, and his defense could always be better. But to say he is unequivocally having one of his worst seasons? That’s wrong.
I was wrong. And I was irresponsible. I continually pencilled in his having a “down year” as a given, ignoring the other information outside of my narrative.
McCollum has improved his overall accuracy and is making this team better when he is on the floor. There’s no getting around that.
If you’re waiting for McCollum to break out of a slump, you may want to reassess what exactly you consider a down year.
