Seth Curry looked nice as a point guard

With Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum, and Evan Turner resting tonight, Seth Curry took over at point guard.

Although Curry was acquired to be a knockdown shooter this year, both Head Coach Terry Stotts and GM Neil Olshey have spoken about wanting to see what he can do as a primary ball handler when those guys sit.

Against the Suns, Curry came out running the pick-and-roll well, dishing some nice passes through the defense for shots at the basket, finding his guys for spot-up looks, and even pulling up for himself occasionally. He was also the one who helped get Layman going in the first.

With Curry being a solid shooter and capable facilitator, the Blazers will have lots of versatility when he is out there with or without Dame and CJ.

He ended with seven points, four assists, and three rebounds.

Blazers took much better care of the ball

In their last game against the Utah Jazz, the Blazers recorded 26 turnovers.

Against the Suns, they had nine – and only three in the first half. Of course, this could be mostly based on the fact they were, in fact, playing against the Suns. But still, there were few mental mistakes, lots of hustle to keep the ball from going out-of-bounds, and smart plays.

Unfortunately, the Blazers play the Kings in their final preseason game, so we won’t see how well they can keep the ball secure against an elite defense before October 18. But if they keep their turnovers under double digits for the second time in a row, I’ll be content.
