Up next for the Blazers: Revenge game against the Memphis Grizzlies

Well, that was fun, yeah? Although they weren’t able to clinch a playoff spot Friday, the Trail Blazers were mostly dominant against the Los Angeles Clippers.

It took a few minutes for the Portland Trail Blazers to get going on Friday night at the Moda Center. The Los Angeles Clippers were in town, clinging to their dwindling playoff hopes and looking to upend the Blazers’ apple cart.

Of course, as the season winds down and Portland puts a strangle hold not just on a playoff spot but on the third seed in the Western Conference, it’s becoming clear that Rip City’s cart isn’t easily upended.

How ya like them apples?

Clippers vs. Blazers

Portland beat the Clippers 105-96 Friday in a game that wasn’t nearly as close as the final score would seem to indicate.

Portland had a 23-point lead at one point, thanks in no small part to Young Zach Collins, who had one of his best games as a professional, scoring a career-high 15 points (on 7/10 shooting) and displaying a variety of offensive moves.

Like the Blazers as a whole, it took Collins a little while to find his stride, but once he settled in, he was unstoppable. Collins’ progression is looking like the highlight of the Blazers’ season.

The Blazers got contributions from several players Friday. The stat line looked pretty sweet.

The Blazers also had 30 assists, tying their season high.

Grizzlies vs. Blazers

Damian Lillard missed the game last Wednesday against the Grizzlies in Memphis. They lost that one, which was a little embarrassing. It certainly wasn’t the end of the world, though.

In a quirk of scheduling, the Blazers have a chance to exact a measure of near-immediate revenge against the awful, tanking Grizzlies. And Dame will be back for this one.

It will also be another chance for Portland to clinch a playoff spot. All they have to do is win Sunday.

The status of Ed Davis, who twisted his ankle against the Clippers, is uncertain.

Tip-off Sunday at the Moda Center is set for 6 p.m. PDT.
