Is there any substance behind Kevin Love potentially coming to Portland?

Why the trade could happen

Cleveland Cavaliers

After plugging almost every scenario into ESPN Trade Machine, this is the best offer for both sides in my opinion. Evan Turner and Moe Harkless both have expensive contracts that are currently hurting Portland financially. Neither have lived up to the money, but Turner’s ball-handling and Harkless’ length could improve Cleveland’s overall play.

Of course, Nurkic is the biggest piece leaving Portland. The 23-year old center has yet to reach his prime, and still plays solid basketball most of the time he’s on court. Some times, he’s able to wow everyone with his post moves and tenacity.

Pairing Nurkic with LeBron James could up his game to a whole new level. Cleveland’s offense will have an easier time finding some flow, and their defense improves automatically. Shabazz Napier and some sort of draft pick round out Portland’s exits, as James is finally granted his favorite point guard of the 2014 NBA Draft.

Portland Trail Blazers

Coming to Portland is, of course, Love, but also a familiar face. Initial reports indicate the Cavaliers want to get rid of larger veteran contracts, like Channing Frye‘s. Frye played for Portland from 2007-2009, has an expiring contract, and can provide veteran and championship experience to the Blazers.

Financially, both sides (kind of) win as well. Portland saves $2 million this season, doesn’t have to commit to Frye long term, nor worry about re-signing Nurkic this offseason.

The Blazers shed Turner’s ridiculous salary, and form one of the best big threes in the entire league. Cleveland gets pieces to help compete for a ring this season, and have flexibility on all four players once the season concludes.

My good friend and avid NBA junkie, Hunter Grimm (@HunterGrimm1) has a similar trade that I think works as well. Instead of Harkless, Noah Vonleh departs for Cleveland. It doesn’t help out the Blazers as much financially, but it opens up the 4-spot even more for Love. This way, rookies Zach Collins and Caleb Swanigan can be groomed to start at the five and become back ups at power forward.

Do you agree? Is it worth going after Love, and would he even like the move to the Blazers? If yes for both, is this trade scenario adequate for both sides? We just have a little over a week to fully find out if Love is staying put, or going to a deserving and needing team, such as the Blazers.
