Luck

Every team needs a little luck on the journey to a title. Some luck is self-made, other forms are purely a case of being in the right place at the right time. Drafting players with “high-ceilings” and making trades for “buy-low” candidates are ways that teams can put themselves in a position to conjure up their own luck. Having other title favorites implode along the way is the other form.

Chasing down a title starts with the Trail Blazers work in-house, but a little help from outside forces certainly wouldn’t hurt. If the Spurs suddenly aged ten years overnight it would go a long way in clearing a path out of the Western Conference. If the Golden State super-team turns out to be not-so-super it would make a title shot a lot less of a challenge.

All the things we’ve mentioned before in this post involve a little luck. Finding the perfect blend of talent and chemistry is one thing, but having that elusive title window open is a completely different monster. It appears that the Trail Blazers will be able to do their part. It will now take a little luck for them to capture a second trophy for Portland.
