The Blazers president finally came out and spoke to the media, though he didn’t say much of anything at all. At least Miller says the evaluation of Kevin Pritchard process is ongoing. Here’s what Jason Quick of The Oregonian has so far:

Miller said owner Paul Allen and Vulcan CEO Tod Leiweke are about halfway through their evaluation process of Pritchard and that no timetable has been set for it to be completed.

“Nothing has been determined about Kevin going forward,” Miller said. “We are in the midst of the whole evaluation. Look, it’s a tough situation for all of us. I consider Kevin a friend … in many jobs you go through annual evaluations – the challenge here is that it is very public.”

A transcript of the interview should be up soon from The Columbian’s Brian T. Smith. UPDATE: Here it is.

UPDATE: From Smith on Twitter:

Blazers’ Pritchard was scheduled to meet with Nuggets’ Warkentien on Sunday. Meeting was postponed for personal reasons.

Pritchard and Warkentien still intend to meet, though, and Sunday’s canceled meeting will likely be rescheduled.

Look, we could spend an hour dissecting every little thing Miller said, but it would be a pointless endeavor. On first impression, it appears Miller continued to talk in circles without directly responding to any important queries. None of this is taking you to any conclusions, though saying, “the challenge here is that it is very public” is a joke, as much of this public drama could have been avoided by the team itself. Stop using the little Dutch boy to plug the leaks there, folks.

After Thursday night’s victory over the Dallas Mavericks, I said the Blazers looked “prepared and cohesive” with regards to their defensive game plan, particularly involving Dirk Nowitzki. Because of this, they not only held him to 13 shot attempts in 41 minutes, but limited their good-look sacrifices to Dirk’s teammates as well.

Now it’s time for some show and tell. Jimmy brought his frog, Susie brought her dad’s Ken Griffey Jr. autographed baseball and we brought some defensive possessions of one of Portland’s best wire-to-wire defensive games of the season. Let’s take a look.

Defensive Possession One: We’ll start things off early in the first quarter. It’s not a great defensive stand, but it does show the Blazers being aware of what the offense is doing early on in the game. Watch which way their heads are looking, and how far they sink in the middle to be ready to help.

Just before Andre Miller gets picked off by Dampier, everyone is in ideal help position. You would like to see Camby show a little more, as in jump out and meet Butler coming off the screen, but Butler passed it off quickly and Camby stays with him in the post as Miller recovers. This is the correct decision. Dampier gets open on the elbow extended but, that not being his range, has to take a dribble and a Rudy-floater in the lane with Camby sliding in front of him. Good example of giving the right attention to the right people.

Pardon me for a moment so I can wash my eyes out with isopropanol and make them smile again with something good.

That’s better. Now then, I’m sure everyone has made a joke by now about how ugly this game was, but I’m not sure the words exist on a Scrabble board to do this one justice. Well, maybe the words “morbidly revolting”, but you get the point. The Blazers managed 83 possessions, shot 32.1 percent and scored 91 points per 100 possessions — they average 110.9. Put it together and what do you get? Bibbidy, Bobbidy, Bo . . . err, 76 points in 48 minutes of basketball.

There really isn’t much to say about this. Brandon Roy hit the game-winning jumper with 0.9 seconds left, but even that was a terrible shot, as he treated a looming double team like an isolation opportunity, had to fake one defender into the air then lean in to avoid contact and shoot over another defender. It looks great on the highlight reels, but that’s a forehead smacker 90 percent of the time.

The shots that Portland was getting weren’t terrible, but they were often contested. Not contested enough to explain Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge combining to shoot 10-of-35 (28 percent), but with Flip Saunders alternating defenses and forcing the Blazers into improvisational isolations — their 10 assists were the fifth-lowest total of the season — the looks can be considered well below-average.

The threes, especially, were there. They just didn’t fall. Portland shot 2-of-12 from deep, and all 12 attempts came from Roy, Nic Batum and Rudy Fernandez. While at least a pair of Roy’s misses were pullup threes atop the key, Batum missed three good looks in the final minutes, and Rudy was not without shooting space, either.

Do credit the Wizards, though. Since sending away Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison away, I’ve seen that team fight through a couple of games they had no business being in, even if their talent level ultimately failed them. Of all the Quadruple-A teams the Blazers have had to face, the Wizards at least looked like they were buying into a semblance of a balanced game plan, even if it resembled a high-school coach ordering his team to play keep away with a three-point lead and five minutes left in the game.

We’ll stop here. I’m going to, for some odd reason, revisit this game tomorrow and see what else we can pull out of it, even if all that comes out is teeth.
