Which Trail Blazers have flourished since leaving Portland?

The Portland Trail Blazers have had plenty of stars over the years, but Bill Walton was the only player that had enough star power to bring a title to Portland. Now, in what is the 39th year since Portland won the NBA Championship, a plethora of young talent has given Rip City more hope for the near future.

But like LaMarcus Aldridge this past free agency, sometimes players just can’t stand the drought and need to leave. A part of me understands the frustration of playing in Portland. While yes, the fan base is loyal and the atmosphere of every home game has the potential to feel like the playoffs, but those reasons and more won’t put a World Championship banner in the rafters. But then again, what if some of those players stayed?

Since 2000, there have been five players who have gone off to bigger and better things that crush the soul of every Portland fan. The “what if” factor with some of these players can entice even the most limited of imaginations, some for the best, while some for the worst.

The following Top 5 list comprises the best players that got away. It will break down what could’ve been, as well as the reasons behind their departure. We ranked the players based on a two main factors: how much their stats/skill improved compared to their career as a Blazer and championship success. Shining example is Clyde Drexler, who despite being regarded as the best Blazer in history, I’m willing to bet that winning a title with Houston is his favorite basketball memory.
