Free agent point guard Steve Blake has agreed to sign with the Trail Blazers on a 2yr/$4.2M deal. The Trail Blazers will use their bi-annual exception in order to make this happen. Portland could still re-sign Mo Williams using the Non-Bird exception, but the need is no longer so dire. Since Blake fills their 15th roster spot, they would have to waive Will Barton to do so anyway, so it looks like Williams is likely gone.
Blake has played for the Trail Blazers before, from 2007-2010. He has experience with both LaMarcus Aldridge and Nicolas Batum, as well as Chris Kaman, who he played with for part of last season as a Los Angeles Laker. Hopefully this will translate to a shorter transitional period. Blake could gel right away in the Trail Blazers secondary. He won’t replace the scoring punch that Williams offered, but his abilities as a facilitator should help other players make up the difference.
