Mo Williams (Groin) Ruled Out of Game 3 Against Spurs

Portland Trail Bazers backup point guard Mo Williams will not play against the San Antonio Spurs tonight, according to Chris Haynes of CSNNW. Williams has been nursing a groin injury he sustained in Game 6 against the Houston Rockets and re-aggravated in Game 2 of Portland’s series with San Antonio.

In his place, we can expect to see Will Barton and Earl Watson get more playing time. Barton has shot 8/9 from the field for a total of 22 points in the series thus far. Although he does not offer the kind of ball movement that Williams does, he has performed better with the ball in his hands than his injured teammate. He is certainly a step up on the defensive end, so perhaps Portland has a silver lining to losing their sixth man.

Game 3 will commence tonight at 7:30 p.m. PDT on ESPN. The Trail Blazers must find a way to win this game without their leader in bench production in order to avoid dropping to 0-3. This game is a must win, as no team in NBA history has ever recovered from that deficit.
