Trail Blazers backup point guard Mo Williams re-injured his groin last night in Game 2 of Portland’s series with San Antonio. Head coach Terry Stotts “anticipates” that Williams will rest for Game 3 on Saturday night in Portland, according to Erik Gunderson of The Columbian. If Williams sits, guards Earl Watson and Will Barton will see an extension in minutes.
“I’ll be prepared,” said Barton after going 5 for 5 from the field for 13 points in 12 minutes Thursday night. “I’m going into it like Mo is going to be there and I’m going to be prepared either way it goes. I feel like I’ve done a good job of always staying ready and being ready. I’m going to keep approaching every game the same way, cheer my teammates on and if I get my number called, just go out there and try to make plays for us to win game.”

Personally, I would still be a little bit surprised if Williams sat the entire game. He is vital to the Trail Blazers’ bench production, and if they do not win tomorrow the series is essentially over. For now, his status is “doubtful,” but look for a potential upgrade to “questionable” as the game approaches.
