The Portland Trail Blazers and Houston Rockets prepare for game 2 of their first round matchup tonight at 6:30 p.m. PDT. The Trail Blazers were able to steal an overtime win on the road last Sunday when LaMarcus Aldridge and Damian Lillard combined for 77 of Portland’s 122 points, but a statistical repeat seems far from likely. They must survive one more game in Houston before the series travels to Portland. Fortunately, the worst possible outcome of tonight’s game is a 1-1 split heading back to the Moda Center, still in favor of Portland in terms of home court advantage.
Prior to Sunday night, the Rockets were considered heavy favorites to win the series, but now the pressure is on them to regain control. Heavy doses of James Harden, Dwight Howard, and Chandler Parson are coming Portland’s way. At point guard, Patrick Beverley has been cleared to play after suffering a minor knee injury, and Jeremy Lin is feeling much better after missing yesterday’s practice with illness. Storm clouds are forming over the Toyota Center as the angry Rockets plan their next move.
In the scope of the series, anything could still happen except for a Houston sweep. If the Trail Blazers are able to gain a 2-0 series lead with another win on the road, they may even sweep the Rockets after returning home. An unlikely scenario, but fun to think about. So as we head into Game 2 with Portland up 1-0, what are your predictions for the series outcome? Odds favor Portland for a change, but reality is not always comparable to on-paper circumstances.
As you weigh your decision, keep in mind that both teams are completely healthy, Harden will not usually shoot 8-28, and Aldridge will not usually score 46 points. So, which team will advance in the long run?
