Well that didn’t take long. Former Trail Blazers point guard and present heavy weight champion of being a heavy weight Raymond Felton was arrested early Tuesday morning on three counts of criminal possession of a weapon. These charges include second degree possession of a firearm (felony), third degree possession of a firearm (felony), and fourth degree possession of a firearm (misdemeanor).
Felton allegedly pointed the gun at his girlfriend in what one can loosely term a “domestic dispute.” New York has very strict laws on gun possession, so much so that Felton may face jail time if convicted. Real life implications aside, this is terrible news for the New York Knicks, whose woes have publicly stockpiled this season. The Knicks just completed a buyout of their only other point guard, Beno Udrih.
Felton has completed his transformation into an irrecoverably destitute man’s Gilbert Arenas. It would be comical if it weren’t so disappointing. I don’t like him (Blazer fan, duh), and I think he makes bad decisions, but I had been hoping that maybe there was a part of him that wasn’t held together by bacon grease and evil. I guess he gets points for turning himself in for questioning?
Felton’s fate has yet to be determined, but one thing is certain: the New York Knicks can’t catch a break. After last night’s heartbreaking loss to the Dallas Mavericks, they sit at 21-36 on the season and have no point guard. Is there any doubt that Carmelo Anthony will leave in free agency now? Raymond Felton has successfully demolished another franchise from the inside out. At least it wasn’t Portland this time.
