Inspired by the Dairy Queen collectible drinking glasses from the 1992-1993 NBA season that featured Clyde Drexler, Terry Porter, Cliff Robinson, Buck Williams, Jerome Kersey, and Kevin Duckworth, the Portland Trail Blazers are introducing a new series in the same 90’s style. The first Trail Blazer to be immortalized through caricature in the new series is 3x NBA All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge. The collectible drinking glass will be given to fans attending tonight’s game against the San Antonio Spurs.
For those interested in collecting the whole set of starters while they enjoy Rip City basketball, the remaining glasses will be handed out on the following dates:
Robin Lopez – February 26th (vs. Brooklyn Nets)
Damian Lillard – March 5th (vs. Atlanta Hawks)
Wesley Matthews – March 30th (vs. Memphis Grizzlies)
Nicolas Batum – April 13th (vs. Golden State Warriors)
The LaMarcus Aldridge design is the only one that has been disclosed to the public to whet the collective appetite. Aside from the goofy drawing, the drinking glass features Aldridge’s jersey number (12), his nickname (The L-Train), his birthday (July 19th, 1985), the year he joined the Trail Blazers (2006), his birth city (Dallas), his listed height (6’11”), and his signature (Loop-squiggle-squiggle-loop-#12). It stands to reason that the other glasses will be similarly designed with appropriate variations.
The only way to receive these glasses is to attend those games. As of right now, they are not for sale, nor will they be in the foreseeable future. At the risk of royally irritating the solitary bidder, I feel I should let you know that a never-used set of the original six collectible glasses is presently available on Ebay. I promise I am not the seller, nor do I know who it is. However; for a truly complete collection, that is a good place to start. Good luck if you need it!
