The Portland Trail Blazers rookie guard CJ McCollum had a CT scan on his injured foot this afternoon, but we won’t know anything about the prognosis for a few days. He is nearly 10 weeks removed from re-breaking the fifth metatarsal in his left foot and should be able to play within the month if his results are good. Because the Trail Blazers have experienced so much success this season without him, it is entirely possible that he will spend time with the Idaho Stampede (Portland’s D-League affiliate) to shake the rust off before making a full-scale return.
McCollum will eventually absorb minutes behind Damian Lillard and Wesley Matthews, but the Trail Blazers will not rush him into the rotation until he is ready and they are too. This is part of why they will not give a definitive timetable for his return at this juncture. Even if it is declared that CJ McCollum has a clean bill of health, be prepared to wait a few more weeks before he takes the court at the Moda Center. Best case scenario: He participates fully in Trail Blazers practice within the week.
