NUMBER THREE

Season: 2001-2002

Length: 12 games

Average Score: 95-88

How the Season Ended: Swept in the first round by the eventual champion Lakers. It’s a loss that’s hard to get angry about–just look at the roster. There’s hardly anyone you really identify as a Trail Blazer, and the ones who are, like Sheed, Stoudamire, and Z-Bo, aren’t exactly model Blazers. And no one’s that unhappy that the Shawn Kemp Blazers didn’t win anything, right?

Best individual game: ‘Sheed put up 37 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 blocks in a trouncing of the Dirk-Nash Mavs.

Player I had never heard of: Why did no one tell me about Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje? He played 300 minutes in the NBA, was pre-med, math, and bio at Georgetown, and is named Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje. Here he is messing up a promotion. Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje, ladies and gentlemen.

^Best Youtube Video: That was it.

Yet another split-seasoner in 1981. Am I just skipping these because it would be too tedious to integrate split seasons on Basketball-Reference’s Play Index? Maybe!
