Mo Williams Suspended, LaMarcus Aldridge, Wesley Matthews Fined

The Portland Trail Blazers were involved in a fight with the Golden State Warriors on Saturday, that resulted in three ejections and five technical fouls. The breakdown of the brawl can be found here. The NBA has decided to suspend Trail Blazers guard Mo Williams for one game, fine LaMarcus Aldridge $45K, and Wesley Matthews $20K.

This means that Williams will be unavailable to take the court against the New York Knicks tonight. The Trail Blazers are still the favorites to win, but the loss of Mo Williams is a blow. He has averaged 9.5 points and 4.9 assists for the Trail Blazers off the bench this season. Look for Earl Watson to step in as backup point guard in Williams’ stead.

As for the Golden State Warriors, Andrew Bogut will serve a one game suspension for his role in starting the fight. Draymond Green has also been fined $20K. I’m okay with this. Honestly, suspensions probably weren’t necessary for the third quarter kerfuffle, but as long as punishments were doled out evenly, there’s no reason not to just move on.
