A familiar face returns to his first NBA regular season action, in almost a year and a half, tonight. Former Portland Trail Blazer, Channing Frye, will start at power forward for the Phoenix Suns when they face off against each other at 7pm Pacific time. Frye has missed the last eighteen months due to an enlarged heart that was caused by a virus. With starting power forward, Markieff Morris, suspended for a game because of an elbow to Serge Ibaka’s face in the preseason, Frye gets the starting nod.
I couldn’t be more happier for a player coming back from an injury. Frye joined the Blazers in 2007, and endeared himself to Blazer fans and the City of Portland in the two seasons he played here. His laid back personality seemed to fit the City of Roses. By his own admission, Frye fell in love with the city, and it was sad to see him go when the Blazers decided that he was not a part of their future plans.
As I watch tonight’s game, and cheer for the Blazers, I will also be cheering on Channing Frye’s return and hope to see him make an impact in the game tonight.
Welcome back Channing Frye!
