Damian Lillard Goes the Extra Mile

There are a lot of players out there that are PR masters, but genuine altruism is hard to come by. If I’m being honest, Damian Lillard’s anti-bullying campaign, “RESPECT, Pass It On” had me wondering, not because it wasn’t good, but because it’s almost too good. But if there was any question about Lillard’s magnanimous personality, it has now been resolved.

With no TV cameras, no boom mics, and no press, Lillard openly shared his feelings of personal guilt, on twitter, for denying a fan a photo op. This set the course for a chain of events that were carried out when supposedly nobody was watching.

The series of tweets and events, as chronicled by a diligent redditor, happened accordingly:

Damian didn’t have to do any of this. There were no PR reps involved, no team meetings held, no alerts to the press; he just went out of his way to right what he believed to be a wrong and make a fan’s day. And you know what? It made my day. This is the kind of human being I want leading my team.
