Terrence Jones Arrested in Portland

Portland native, Jefferson high school graduate, and current Houston Rocket, Terrence Jones, was arrested in Portland this morning for harassment of a homeless man. The incident occurred in the vicinity of 114 NW 3rd Ave in downtown Portland.

Jones was reportedly leaving a bar when he passed two sleeping homeless men in the doorway. According to the police report, he then shouted, “Wake up!” and stomped on 46 year old Daniel Kellerher’s leg. Kellerher did not require medical attention.

This is disappointing to see from anyone, much less a young NBA player in the public eye. While I am not entirely removed from the frustration of Portland’s vast transient population, one does not go about stomping on other human beings unprovoked.

It should be noted, however, that the charge was harassment, not assault. This was no vicious attack, but it was certainly inappropriate behavior. Spin it as you will. Police say they were unaware that Jones was an NBA player until after the arrest.

Jones was released later this morning and is due to appear in court next Tuesday at 2 pm.
