The 2013 NBA Draft Lottery will take place on Tuesday, May 21st, at 5:30pm PST, on ESPN. Based on their 33-49 record this season, the Blazers are most likely to get the 10th pick. Since General Manager, Neil Olshey, has declared his intent to bundle picks for proven players, anything above 10 is just gravy; although it is always possible that a young talent will catch his eye.

Chances of receiving the #1 pick:

  • Orlando Magic (20-62): 25%
  • Charlotte Bobcats (21-61): 19.9%
  • Cleveland Cavaliers (24-58): 15.6%
  • Phoenix Suns (25-57): 11.9%
  • New Orleans Hornets (27-55): 8.8%
  • Sacramento Kings (28-54): 6.3%
  • Detroit Pistons (29-53): 3.6%
  • Washington Wizards (29-53): 3.5%
  • Minnesota Timberwolves (31-51): 1.7%
  • Portland Trail Blazers (33-49): 1.1%
  • Philadelphia 76ers (34-48): 0.8%
  • Toronto Raptors (34-48): 0.7%
  • Dallas Mavericks (41-41): 0.6%
  • Utah Jazz (43-39): 0.5%

Portland has virtually no chance of winning the lottery. Remember how big of a deal it was when they got Greg Oden? They had a 5.3% chance that year. Still, it’s nice to know where they stand and what kind of trade fodder we can expect come May 21st. Be sure to catch the lottery on ESPN, as it is, by nature, unpredictable. Maybe Charlotte will snag #1 from Orlando and have last season’s cries of “rigging” silenced with delicious irony.
