LaMarcus Aldridge has had himself a nice little week, and for his efforts he has been awarded Western Conference Player of the Week honors.
Here’s the official release:
LAMARCUS ALDRIDGE NAMED NBA WESTERN CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
The Portland All-Star wins the award for the third time in his career
PORTLAND, Ore. (March 18, 2013) – Portland Trail Blazers forward/center LaMarcus Aldridge was named the NBA’s Western Conference Player of the Week, it was announced today by the NBA.
Aldridge led the NBA in scoring (27.0), while ranking tied for 13th in rebounds (10.7) and tied for third in blocks (3.00). He shot 56.4 percent from the field and converted all 19 of his free throw attempts, the most in the league this week without a miss.
The two-time NBA All-Star recorded at least 20 points and 10 rebounds in all three games. Aldridge now ranks third in the NBA with 20 games this season of at least 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Aldridge wins the award for the third time in his career after taking the honor twice during the 2010-11 season. The seventh-year Trail Blazer joins Clyde Drexler and Brandon Roy as Portland’s only players to garner the award at least three times.
The Trail Blazers went 2-1 this week, including home wins against New York and Detroit. Aldridge led the team in scoring, field goals made, free throws made and blocked shots.
Washington’s John Wall was named the NBA’s Eastern Conference Player of the Week. Other nominees for the honors were Atlanta’s Al Horford, Denver’s Kosta Koufos, Miami’s LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, Minnesota’s Ricky Rubio, Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, and San Antonio’s Tim Duncan.
What’s most interesting about LA winning this award is that he and John Wall, winner from the Eastern Conference, are the only two players from sub .500 teams nominated. LaMarcus has been fantastic in his last few games, and the reality is, if LA keeps playing well Portland’s record doesn’t really matter.
The Blazers are not making the playoffs. That LaMarcus Aldridge cares enough to stay engaged is a pretty good sign.
