A minute for Seth Tarver

Admittedly it has been a slow day if what makes the news is that four additional players have been invited to training camp. The story within the story, of course, is that Patty Mills, a fan favorite from last season and one of the first Blazers on the injury train, was not among those asked to camp.  I thought that now, since training camp is almost upon us and soon there will be real stories to cover, would be a good time to say a few words about one of the four that was invited to training camp: Seth Tarver.

Portlanders know Seth Traver from his days at Jesuit, and some non-Portland Oregonians will remember him from his time spent with the Oregon State Beavers. Although Tarver is a long shot to make the team, as many important bloggers have noted on this site and others, it is nice to see a local kid given a shot at the big time. It seems that every training camp features one home town guy who gets a lot of cheers. Its fun for the fans, and I’m sure it will be fun for Tarver to throw on a Blazer jersey and run a few sets with some of the regulars.  Because it’s training camp, and there probably won’t be any more Seth Traver stories for the duration of the 2010-11 NBA season I thought I’d include a couple of links to articles about Mr. Tarver from his college days that may have been missed the first time around.

Here’s a piece from the Corvallis Gazette-Times about Tarver’s role with the Beavers.

And a link to a story from the Oregonian about the final Beaver home game for Seth and his brother Josh.
