Rumor: Rudy Fernandez prefers Europe over NBA

From BlazersEdge comes HoopsHype’s translation of Rudy Fernandez’ interview in El Mundo Deportivo:

Rudy Fernandez: “If I could reach an agreement with Portland, so that they would not trade me to another NBA team and they would accept my return to Europe, I’d be pleased.”

“My agents are looking for the best trade for me, but at the end of the day only Portland can decide.”

Well, Blazer fans, it seems as if everything is back to normal. Summer League is over, a General Manager is in place, and there’s a rumor from a Spanish newspaper about how badly Rudy Fernandez wants out. I’ve missed this. If you’ve been tracking the telenovela known as Rudy Fernandez’ off-season than you will know this is nothing new. Reports have been coming for a while that #5 wants out of the Rose City, even some saying he has a list of NBA teams he wants to go too. The above quotes are not ground breaking and like with all of these Spanish reports on Rudy, need to be taken with salt.

For speculation’s sake, obviously if Rudy wants to leave, he would probably prefer to go to Europe. I just don’t see a scenario where Portland is ok with giving him up for nothing. I do wonder if these kind of statements are back firing on Rudy and his camp because NBA teams may wonder if they can keep Fernandez happy/around. Who knows at this point.

I think he would be best off going to Europe, whether these rumors are entirely true or not. He’s only going to get 10-15 minutes with the Blazers with Matthews in the fold, and he has the talent to play 30-40 nightly. He could probably get that overseas.
