Woj: Portland will try to move up

In the wake of the NBA Draft Lottery giving the No. 1 pick to the Washington Wizards, Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted the following nugget about the Blazers:

Houston and Portland are two teams that will be working No. 3 Nets and No. 4 Wolves hard to move up in the draft, league sources say.

It’s an odd range to target, to be sure, as the players expected to go 3-4 are power forwards Derrick Favors and DeMarcus Cousins. We’ll have to think on this to see what Portland could possibly offer — likely a combination of future salary relief and Bayless and Rudy, to start — but the main perimeter player that could go as high as three is Wesley Johnson of Syracuse. The other possibility could be future big-man insurance with Cole Aldrich or Greg Monroe, but that seems like a stretch.

Honestly don’t see why the Nets or TWolves would want Rudy or Bayless. Maybe the Blazers are ready to give up on Oden?

Yeah, it’s tough because neither team needs salary relief, and Minny doesn’t really need Bayless (but could use Rudy, if he’s playing with his head screwed on). Hard to figure the Nets with new ownership.

Shocked wouldn’t even being to describe what I would be if Oden got moved.

I know you don’t think this involves LaMarcus, but it’s still one of the first things that comes to mind. (Yeah, yeah, I’ve been critical of LA quite a bit this year, but I don’t think I’m alone in that.) I’d add Ed Davis to the list you have above. I think Portland management might see this as just about a prime time to trade LaMarcus, although I’m not sure what other teams think of his salary. If it’s New Jersey, I doubt they care.

So I’ll stick with NJ here, just for fun. Maybe it’s something involving LaMarcus and Bayless or Rudy for the pick and Devin Harris, but given that the Nets won’t be getting John Wall, I’m not sure this makes any sense.

Don’t mind playing with these ideas, but–I know I say it too often–Woj really annoys me and I don’t think he’s responsible at all as a journalist, blogger, Tweeter, whatever. I don’t put a whole lot of weight into this, but it’s an easy claim to make because of KP’s draft history.

Now that I think about it, I think Aldridge’s contract is still poison pill until July 1, which makes him extremely difficult to move.

Yeah, you may be right, but I don’t know why either team would be interested in a move that involves some combination of Rudy, Bayless, Martell, Joel, and picks. Doesn’t make sense to move Jeff or Dante, and not sure how much interest Jeff draws.

Maybe Portland tries to pitch Rudy as a way to lure Rubio to Minnesota. That just made me laugh out loud.

Hah. I certainly wouldn’t be interesting in that package if I were those teams.
