Brian T. Smith of The Columbian had it first. The first graph is about firing Tom Penn, then this:
We are not going to make any more long-term decisions today. When the season ends we will evaluate how best to move the Trail Blazers forward. That’s not different than the way we have operated for the past 21 seasons.
I support everyone who works for me, including Kevin Pritchard, and that’s why he’s our general manager. We all have the same goal — to bring another NBA Championship to the great fans of Portland.
Well, it’s bland and generic and doesn’t really tell you anything that Larry Miller didn’t already say. Allen most likely didn’t even write it himself. Probably reading too much into this right now, but the “I support everyone . . . including Kevin Pritchard” line couldn’t be much more non-committal. It’s important to remember that Allen isn’t going to sacrifice any leverage regarding Pritchard’s contract status, but how much harm would it do to make one, non-general, person specific complete sentence?
Not your best effort, Blazers, but it’s better than silence. I think. It’s pretty clear that we’re going to have to live with crossing our fingers until the offseason.
