Well, if you have learned anything from the 09-10 Blazer season it is that joy is temporary, not pain. Putting a damper over Marcus Camby’s newfound joy with being a Blazer and Portland’s 22 point victory over the Los Angeles Clippers was Brandon Roy’s post-game comments to the media. Brian T. Smith of the Columbian and Ben Golliver of Blazersedge each have their own transcripts or coverage so definitely check those links out. I will give you a taste of what’s going on, here’s a tweet from Ben earlier:
B Roy tells reporters after the game he is worried that his season could be in jeopardy as his hamstring is not progressing. V. Frustrated
And one from Brian T. Smith:
#Blazers‘ Roy said he has not brought up sitting out rest of season with staff, but the idea of not playing is beginning to weigh on him.
Now as a fan it’s never good to hear your superstar say these kinds of things. It’s easy to wonder ‘well why did you play if you were supposed to sit out until Friday’. From Roy’s comments it’s easy to tell that he would feel no differently and just needed to test it out. Obviously, he is the only one who knows his body and apparently his body is telling him bad things. One would only hope that this is simply a brash/emotional reaction from a frustrated player anxious to get back on the court and get rid of this nagging injury. Maybe he’ll feel better in the morning, perhaps he was just venting, who knows but it is clear there is some frustration coming from #7. There is always the possibility that this hammy might not fully heal up and Roy may not be able to adjust. Roy may not be explosive but he needs to be able to change speeds and be shifty, something that a hamstring would restrict. And from all looks he struggled at times just running up and down the court. It’s rough because the best treatment is rest and there simply is not a ton of time for Roy to sit out if the Blazers want to make a playoff push. Any news concerning Roy having to be out is no good for the Blazers. Let’s be honest people, if Roy’s hamstring does not get any better, this season may be all for naught.
