Blazers, Grizzlies Pre-Thoughts

Just posting this for SJ, who wrote a quick preview on his Blackberry before having to jump on a bus.

We’re just going to keep this one quick and dirty. The Grizzlies are coming to town and for the first time in a while they are coming in at .500 (16-16). Not only that but they are somewhat of a force to be reckoned with. They come into tonight’s game winners of 6 of their last 7, including a 128-103 destruction of Phoenix in the desert.

The leader of the pack: Z-Bo himself, Zach Randolph. Normally a preview of Randolph coming into town would have tons of jokes. Not this one. He’s having an All-Star season on a .500 team, I can’t say anything to him right now. In the past 7 games he’s averaging 26 and 16. Enough said. I’m deathly afraid of what Zach Randolph could do tonight against our depleted front line. If you remember his performance in the RG as a Clipper last year, you should join me in fear. Alongside him is Marc Gasol who can be beasty at times. After what Kaman/Camby did last night, I think a major key to the game is how our frontline handles theirs. If Howard/Pendergraph/Cunningham can win this battle, we’ve got a good shot. The one positive is that the Grizzlies don’t have great shooters so we can help a little bit more. OJ Mayo and Rudy Gay are tremendously gifted scorers but the more jumpers they shoot the better off we are. That being said if one of them catches fire…oh boy.

Offensively, Roy has to be effective, Martell has to keep playing great and Andre has to keep hooping. A little help from Bayless would be nice. You can afford less-than-spectacular games from one or two of them if Aldridge plays, obviously.
